How Rising Food Costs Are Reshaping Consumer Behavior
New research reveals U.S. consumers are cooking more at home, reducing non-essential purchases, and relying on store brand or bulk items to reduce costs
While rising food costs continue to make headlines, consumer behavior now reflects clear tradeoffs, with consumers reporting affordability is now tied with taste as the most important factor in food purchasing decisions. More than half of respondents to a newly released national food attitudes survey agree strongly that increases in food prices have affected how they buy food, either at grocery stores or restaurants.
Inspire recently partnered with nationally recognized agriculture insights and research firm Stratovation Group to conduct the national survey, which provides insight into how consumers are currently navigating food purchasing, changing eating habits, and managing household food budgeting.
For food brands, retailers and agriculture industry leaders, understanding these tradeoffs is critical. The decisions consumers are making today are shaping buying behaviors and expectations.
